The Fugitive Ch. 1
Zero sat on the cold floor of his bedroom, his back leaning against the side of his massive king size bed. He sighed and ran his hand through his silvery bangs with a troubled expression.
He couldn’t erase the gruesome image from his mind. There had been so much blood… There was no way his father was going to survive. There was no doubt that his wounds were fatal. Zero sat waiting; it would only be a matter of time before someone walked into his room to give him the news of his father’s passing. A deep hatred burned within Zero. His jaw tightened and his violet eyes narrowed. He would find the vampire bastard that murdered his father. He would find him and get revenge.
A knock interrupted Zero’s thoughts. “Come in,” Zero’s voice was strained as he looked up toward the door with dread.
Ichiru opened the door with a solemn expression, his head bowed as he approached his twin brother and sat beside him. A moment passed in knowing silence.
“What do we do now?” Zero asked quietly.
Ichiru peered up at Zero. “I don’t know. You’re the one who always knows what to do.”
Zero’s violet eye met Ichiru’s with an unusual softness. “I guess it’s just you and me now,” Zero murmured before burying his head in his hands with a heavy sigh. “I’ve never not known what to do before, Ichiru. You’re all I have left.”
Despite being twins, Ichiru didn’t know what to say to his brother. Instead, he remained silent and placed a comforting hand on his shoulder, Zero placing his hand over Ichiru’s. There was a brief moment of silence before a blood curdling scream reached their ears, and both brothers instantly stood. At that moment, the door burst open.
“The castle is-“ The frantic guard that was standing in the doorway cried out in agony, cut off by a blade running across his throat, leaving a trail of crimson in its wake. The guard’s body fell to the floor to reveal a petite, silver-haired pureblood vampire with a small smile on her lips. Zero rested his hand on his gun, ready to pull it at any second as she fearlessly approached them, licking the blood from her dagger.
Zero moved to shoot her, but was stopped by Ichiru who grabbed his hand.
“What are you doing?!” Zero hissed at his brother, jerking away from Ichiru. Why didn’t Ichiru have his weapon drawn? Why did he stop him from shooting the pureblood who murdered their father and mother? Zero backed away in sudden alarm at the realization that Ichiru was protecting the pureblood; he was a traitor.
